AAPEX announced it is working with the Venetian Resort to implement a number of health and safety measures in preparation for the AAPEX 2020 show, set to take place November 3 through November 5 at the Sands Expo and Caesars Forum.

In a message from AAPEX on July 8, AAPEX leadership announced the Venetian has implemented more than 800 new cleaning protocols, some of which include regular COVID-19 tests for workers, thermal scan temperature checkpoints, a mask policy, and single-use menus at restaurants. Attendees will receive a thermal temperature scan at their hotel, at the main entrance, and at the transportation areas of the Sands Expo.

Las Vegas Governor Steve Sisolak recently mandated masks in all public places; it is unknown, however, how long the city-wide mandate will remain in effect. The AAPEX website states the wearing of masks will be enforced at AAPEX and SEMA for this year’s show, and masks will be provided for attendees or exhibitors who do not have one.

In addition, the Sands Expo and Caesars Forum will have hand sanitizer stations available throughout their facilities, and high-touch areas will be cleaned regularly throughout the show.

“We anticipate less density on the floor itself,” Bill Hanvey, president and CEO, Auto Care Association, says. “We are making traffic flow adjustments to decrease the amount of contact.” These adjustments include increasing aisle width by 25 percent and adding directional signage to make main aisles one-way. “Flow will be structured to reduce traffic clusters while maintaining access,” Hanvey says.

Paul McCarthy, president and COO, Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA), indicated there will be plexiglass and social distance markers at registration points at the Caesars Forum and the Sands, and fewer touchpoints overall. For example, more attendees will receive their badges by mail.

Meeting spaces will follow CDC guidelines and will adhere to a maximum 50 percent capacity, he adds.

“Procedure and safety measures will likely change and evolve as we get closer to the show,” says Mark Bogdansky, senior director of meetings and events, Auto Care Association. “Our primary concern is providing a trade show in a safe and healthy environment. We will stay in touch in the coming weeks and months regarding any new developments.”

Bogdansky adds AAPEX continues to work on a plan for health and safety regarding bussing and transportation to and from hotels to the show.
