Q: How did the tool function as far as saving you time?
A: By providing all of the most commonly used hex and torx sizes in one place, I have what I need at my finger tips to more efficiently complete a service or repair. Also, the durable case allows me to bring the entire set to a vehicle or across the shop, saving me multiple trips to my toolbox.
Q: What kind of setup was involved before using the product?
A: No setup needed, it was ready to go right out of the box.
Q: How easy was it to use?
A: It was very easy to use. Simply match up the tool size with the fastener size and then secure the tool to the appropriate square drive (either 1/4”, 3/8”, or 1/2”).
Q: How was its packaging? Did it come with any accessories?
A: The item came well packaged, shrink wrapped, and in a paper carton. The sockets themselves are arranged in a blow-molded case.
Q: Was there a manual included? If so, did you use the manual, and was it easy to understand?
A: No manual was included. The manual wasn't needed as the use of this tool is self-explanatory.
Q: What features did you like?
A: I liked the size labeling on the case as well as the sockets themselves. I also liked the case itself, it appears durable.
Q: Is there any way you could think to improve or add to this tool?
A: Making the torx sockets tamperproof would make this set more versatile. Also, a pin-type hinge or two-piece case would be nice. This way the set could easily be laid out in a toolbox drawer without taking up too much of a footprint and the case could then be reassembled for when it needs to be carried across the ship.
Q: What types of jobs/repairs did you use this tool for?
A: I used the hex sockets for removing/installing oil drain plugs on various vehicles as well as headlight aiming. I used the torx sockets mainly for interior fasteners such as those in the way of accessing cabin air filters.
Q: Have you used a previous version of this tool? If so, what are some new features compared to the old version? How does this tool compare to other tools you've used?
A: I was not aware of Carbyne products and for this reason I haven't used tools from this brand prior to this review. I have used Cornwell hex sockets and Master Mechanic Torx sockets in the past. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of these sockets and would say they are on par with the quality of the Taiwanese sets on tool trucks.
Q: On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate this tool overall? Why?
A: I would rate this set a solid 9. I was definitely impressed with the quality. Time will tell how well these hold up to harder use and how smoothly the limited lifetime warranty process works.
