Some owners may comment that when in all-wheel-drive mode, a noise can be heard from the rear of the vehicle. This condition may be caused by a slip/stick of the clutch plates.

If the groan/moan noise is validated, perform the following service procedure. Ensure that the fluid is at operating temperature before draining by driving the vehicle in AWD mode.

1. Replace the RDM (rear drive module) lubricant with Dexron LS 75W90 (P/N 9986290).

2. Bring the lubricant up to operating temperature.

3. Perform multiple figure-eight or lock steer turning maneuvers to work the lubricant into the clutch pack.

4. Allow the vehicle to cool back to ambient temperature. If the moan is still present, repeat steps one through four.

The above sequence may need to be repeated two to three times to reduce/eliminate the noise.
